FAQ

What should we wear?

The best colors to photograph are lighter more neutral tones or beachy pastels. Some of my favorite colors are white, cream, baby blue, pastel pink, lavender, seafoam, mint, etc. The more simple, the better! I highly recommend staying away from busy prints with large florals or logos on them and bright/neon colors. If you need some inspiration, take a look around on my website!

What do we do if we have inclement weather?

The weather at the beach is very unpredictable but the good news is if it is calling for rain, even 100% chance, it usually is gone around sunrise or sunset and gives the most amazing skies! If, for some reason, it is raining or extremely windy at the time of our session, I will do my best to reschedule you during your trip. If a reschedule will not work for either of our calendars, you will get a full refund.

Which time of day makes the prettiest skies?

This is 100% up to weather that day! If storms are rolling in we typically get more dramatic blue/purple skies - if it is clear and sunny we get golden sunsets - if it is a combination of both, we get pink, fluffy cloud sunsets. No sky is ever the same at the beach which is one of my favorite things about being a beach photographer!

Should we do sunrise or sunset?

This is a personal choice but I have a few tips for each time of day. Sunrise, although not everyones first choice, is my favorite. It’s best for clients with little ones. Children tend to be happiest in the morning after they had a nice well rested nights sleep and aren’t worn out from swimming in the pool or playing on the beach (and in some cases missing a nap since you are on vacay mode). Sunrise is also great because you are done for the day and don’t have to worry about not staying in the sun too long, getting too burnt, drinking too much, messing up dinner plans and the list goes on. Keep in mind sunrise is around 6:00 a.m. roughly throughout the summer months so it’s early, but always worth it! Beaches are also completely empty at sunrise so we will not have any distractions and can shoot any direction without tents, toys and people galore in the background. Okay I clearly love sunrise more but there are some perks to sunset. Sunset sessions during the summer start around 7:00 p.m. to give you an idea and are generally more convenient for most clients. If you have older children, sunset is most likely better for you. Teens typically are not going to be the best at sunrise so definitely do sunset if you have a teenager or grumpy husband being photographed. Larger groups are going to be more ideal for sunset sessions due to more people getting ready and out the door before 6:00 a.m. Honestly, you know you and your family best!!
